Aisha is literally crying into a bowl of half-eaten paneer while Ashish just stands there looking completely bewildered by her sudden emotional breakdown. Look, you didn't ask for tears, you just wanted to know what happens in De De Pyaar De 2 after the absolute chaos of the first flick where an older guy dates a younger woman and everyone loses their minds. Ajay Devgn is back as Ashish, and Rakul Preet Singh is back as Aisha, and if you thought the age-gap drama was finished, you clearly don't understand how sequels work in the wonderful world of bollywood movies where nobody is ever allowed to just be happy without a whole new set of obstacles thrown directly into their laps.

So the premise is basically that Ashish has to go meet Aisha's family, which is a classic trope in romantic comedies, but this time they cast R. Madhavan as her protective, hyper-aggressive, incredibly traditional family member who makes it his personal mission to destroy this relationship. And honestly, can you blame him because Ashish is old enough to be her dad and it's just awkward. They are sitting in this massive living room that has this one horribly tacky golden vase in the background that I couldn't stop staring at for twenty solid minutes because who puts a giant fake pineapple made of gold right next to a family portrait, it's hideous. And then boom, out of nowhere, R. Madhavan's character just looks straight at Ashish and drops the line, you're not taking her anywhere, and the tension is thicker than a bad hair day.

Stuff happens and they are forced to spend a weekend together at some massive estate in London because hindi films love rich people problems. They argue about values and traditions and generation gaps while wearing ridiculously expensive winter coats that cost more than my entire apartment. And I swear to god, right in the middle of a screaming match about life choices and respect, a random dance number starts playing out of nowhere and everyone is suddenly doing choreographed steps in snow gear. It makes zero sense, typical bollywood.

Then we hit the interval block right as Ashish gets publicly humiliated in front of the entire extended family during a disastrous dinner party where the soufflé collapses and R. Madhavan delivers a monologue about family honor that goes on for literally thirty minutes. Everyone needs a break after that.

Coming back from the intermission, the plot just hyper-speeds into high gear when Aisha gets fed up with all the toxic masculinity and paternal gatekeeping, packs her designer bags, and tells both Ashish and her family that she doesn't need either of them to make her life choices, she's walking away to find herself in a montage that lasts about three seconds.

Ashish and R. Madhavan's character are suddenly forced to team up in a mad dash across the city to find her before she boards a flight to New York, and they have to share a sketchy cab where the driver is blasting terrible pop music. They finally catch her at the departure gate, and R. Madhavan's character finally realizes he's being a control freak, gives a little half-smile, and nods his approval.

Ashish gets down on one knee right there by baggage claim while three security guards look annoyed, pulls out a ring, and Aisha rolls her eyes, laughs through her tears, and says yes while the crowd of background extras starts clapping awkwardly.
